ΜΙΜΑ Technologies
Health Sciences and WellnessIt develops an alternative diagnostic imaging device for radiation-free 3D imaging of the breast, with no compression, using very low power electromagnetic waves at microwave frequencies and employing radar imaging technology. Early clinical tests showed promising sensitivity of the method in dense breast tissue.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, with incidence rising yearly, especially among younger women. Early diagnosis is key to survival. Yet 2D X-ray mammography, the standard breast screening method, underperforms in dense tissue, detecting no more than 60% of cancers. This impacts over half of active women and most younger women, who face a disproportionately high mortality rate due to delayed diagnosis. Supplemental breast screening methods, such as the one developed by MIMA, are needed to improve breast cancer diagnosis and management, especially in high-risk women.
In addition, MIMA’s radar imaging method enables automated reporting of suspicious regions of interest (ROIs) in the volumetric breast image, including malignancy scoring. This is a major advantage, allowing avoidance of long reading times and heavy dependence on subjective radiological diagnoses.
MIMA’s medical imaging diagnostic device is a scalable deep-tech development with applicability to other superficial soft-tissue organs, such as the thyroid.
