BioHermes Farm
Sustainable DevelopmentBioHermes Farm is a Greek deep-tech agri-biotech startup founded by Dr Dimitrios Kontogiannatos (PhD, Agricultural Biotechnology/Entomology), with over 10 years of hands-on experience and 24+ peer-reviewed publications in insect science and biotechnology.
BioHermes Farm develops circular bioconversion units that transform organic waste streams – food waste and agricultural residues – into high-value outputs: insect protein meal (40-45% protein), insect oil, premium organic fertilizer (frass) and functional bioactive compounds via Cordyceps militaris cultivation. The process is based on the Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens), utilising EU-approved, low-CAPEX greenhouse (polytunnel) infrastructure that exploits the Greek climate advantage.
The company targets B2B markets in aquaculture, poultry, pet food and nutraceuticals. Its model aligns with the EU Green Deal and circular economy mandates, offering a realistic, scalable and profitable alternative to imported soy and fishmeal – with break-even projected within 18-24 months and ROI of 20–30% from year 3.
