Lambda Therapeutics aims to develop new treatments for type 2 diabetes by regulating the inflammation in adipose tissue.
Although current treatments for type 2 diabetes target metabolic parameters of the disease, such as glucose production and uptake, secretion of insulin or glucagon, and how cells respond to insulin, the inflammation in adipose tissue has been proven to be the major factor of the disease. This introduces a completely new era for therapeutic interventions for this very common, disastrous and costly disease.
Based on the discovery of certain biological mechanisms that control immune homeostasis in adipose tissue and lead, when not functioning properly, to obesity, insulin resistance and diabetes, Lambda Therapeutics focuses on developing new biomolecules targeting these channels to treat type 2 diabetes and other relevant diseases.
